Quan Bui: His Inspiring Pole Dancing Journey Part 4

October 14, 2020 2 min read

Quan Bui the male pole dancer from Vietnam

(Previous Post, Part 3 here)

Teaching pole, Quan Bui was thinking of the future. He was wondering if he should keep doing it or give up and go back to school and look for a job. With all people saying it is for women, he was doubting his future with pole dancing.

Another obstacle he had when he was starting to teach was the language barrier. He felt he could barely teach when he was starting because he could not express himself in English, even if he could understand the students.

Undaunted, what he did was watch YouTube video tutorials and try to explain with body language. It took him a while to get used to English. He started trying short sentences, and as he got used to it, he used it when he went to Singapore and kept expressing in English.

He was basically shy (he actually still is!) – shy to talk, shy to show off himself, or even perform in front of students. It took him a lot of time before he started overcoming his shyness. He knew it will be harder for men to look good on the pole, so he went to the gym to build his muscles and gain more confidence.

He practiced pole, watched more YouTube videos, practiced some more, and just did what he liked. Still at the back of his head, he was thinking of going back to school and just get a job. He got a lot of people around him in Vietnam, whom he learned from – from posing to showing sexiness, and a whole lot more.  Still, with his love for pole, he persevered, steadily getting a following on social media.

Here is one of his many gravity-defying routines, moving so gracefully and lightly around the pole.

Now in 2020, he feels that in Saigon is more permissive, more people looking for pole dancing classes and people are more open to it.  Compared to a few years ago, he now feels he is more accepted, he feels the support and love of the people he meets, and that is what makes him keep on doing pole dancing.

Years and heaps of confidence later, pole dance gave him a new life. Pole dancing motivated him to get the body shape, to learn English, and most of all, it made him famous in social media – especially on Instagram and Tik Tok.

With many students now, he now teaches pole as not a matter of size, nor gender. Just be confident, comfortable, and sexy. He still is shy when he is with students and other people, but when on the pole, he transforms into this different person - confident and sexy, feminine, and masculine at the same time.

That is what he wants to impart to people, to get out of one’s comfort zone and just feel and enjoy yourself. He avers that with pole dancing, like him, you can become more confident and can find your true self,  which is the beginning of attracting people around you.
