Quan Bui: His Inspiring Pole Dancing Journey Part 2

Quan Bui Male Pole Dancer

Part 1 is here

The year 2009 was not yet ripe for pole dancing – at least not in Ho Chi Minh where he lived.  In the pursuit of his pole dancing dream when he was just 16, and with no pole dance studio nearby, he made do with watching pole stars’ Youtube videos for weeks.

Finally, after a month, he found a pole studio in Saigon and thought he would start his pole dancing class. He was just 16, not working and in school, so the problem of financing his classes was another hurdle.

His dad, who was already living in Texas at that time, was sending him just enough money for his schooling. But the call of the pole is stronger, so unknown to his dad, he quit school so he could use the money for his pole classes in Saigon. His dad would call him every now and then, and every time, he would say, “I’m in school.”

One teacher saw talent and potential in Quan, and she asked him to be part of her team. That opened another opportunity for him – finally, he thought, he can use her studio for free!

He used this chance to practice 4-5 hours a day every day for the next 6 months.  He would continue to watch YouTube pole dance stars, pick one of their tricks, and practice in the studio and on some days, be an assistant teacher.

After teaching for one and a half years, he decided to leave her team and look for another studio to apply for a job. He realized later on it was not easy – being a male and yet to build a name in the pole dancing community, it was really hard for him to get a teaching opportunity.

But then, a bigger opportunity was coming. What was it? Watch out for part 3!
